IMPIETY – “Ravage & Conquer”

ImpietyRelentless.  Absolutely relentless.

I’d not heard Impiety prior to this record but this is pure, first class hate on wax.  I was gonna review it weeks ago but hadn’t decided if I really liked it or not, you know, kinda like when you’re walking round 47 shoe shops with the Mrs who eventually goes back to the first to buy them leaving you utterly exhausted & contemplating divorce.  However I realise now that it’s a great album.

Bit of background, they’re a three piece from Singapore, this is their 8th full length album having done a few splits too. They play a totally intense blackened deathly thrash and used to have a drummer called Necro Angelfornicator. They sound sort of like Angelcorpse… with the hump.

Impiety love a bit of blasphemy  too… which is good.  The cover art is immense & depicts a nasty enthroned Baphomet with an inverted crucifix in one hand and an M60 machine gun in the other!

The musicianship is soooo precise, the riffing is razor-sharp and the vocals are just dripping bile and hatred. Hats off to Dizazter on drums, his blasting is beyond anything I’ve heard and thank Lemmy for the time changes & the odd slow bit or I’m pretty sure his arms would fall off. In all seriousness, the guy is incredible.

Standout track for me is “Weaponized” with its mad textures & Maiden-esque solo.

They also cover “Sacrifice” by Bathory… which Mike will hate.
