ROTTING CHRIST – “KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY”

RCSo after 26 years as a band, 11 albums and counting, Rotting Christ have just written and recorded a masterpiece. Not many bands of this maturity will always pull this off, so I have so much respect for the Tolis brothers Sakis and Themis, the men whom are now solely behind the recording of the band’s music.

From the opening track ‘In Yumen-Xibala’ , I found the journey gripping, with melodies that draw you in and stay with you long after you have finished listening to the album, the distinctive Hellenic metal sound is as strong as always with plenty of blast beats and soaring riffs.

The album title translates to Alistair Crowley’s mantra ‘Do What Thou Wilt’ with highlights like  ‘P’unchaw Kachun – Tuta Kachun’ a songs about the Incas god of death and  ’Grandis Spiritus Diavolos’ sung in Latin, a Middle Ages satanic ritual song. I love the female vocals on ‘Cine Iubeşte Şi Lasă’ based on an old Transylvanian curse.

In total truth there isn’t a bad track on this album and anyone who likes Melodic ‘Extreme’  Metal with a slice of Hellenic Folk melody should have no hesitation and buy this album as soon as the opportunity arises!
