NORDIC GIANTS – Live @ The Lexington, London (01/10/2013)

NordicAnd now for something completely different.

“Cinematic Ambient Soundscape” is not a style I would normally follow but when the live performance is this good…

A discovery made when they initially supported God Is An Astronaut a few years back and then intrigued sufficiently to watch Nordic Giants at ArcTanGent Festival were they blew me (and everyone else) away with an amazing performance, so here I was again in London for the EP release show “Build Seas, Dismantle Suns”.

A Multi-Instrumentalists due that predominantly use drums, piano and brass to create ambient spine tingling soundscapes to custom made short films on projection screens.

The projection screens are the focal point (essentially front man) of the performance as the band members while dressed up in feathers like something between Native Americans & Ravens operate in the shadows to the side under almost constant strobes providing an eerie presence whilst ensuring the music retains the focus.

The films themselves cover a range of styles from the Sci Fi, Animation, Emotional & Political.

The highlight of their set is always without a doubt when guest vocalist Freyja joins them onstage (also in aforementioned stage gear) to perform an incredible rendition of “Glass Skinned Girl”, she really does have an amazing voice.

They also obtain an achievement point in that the crowed is so enraptured that it is impressively noticeable no one was talking or taking pictures.
